Here is another great chat with one of our candidate-qualified aircraft technicians who joined SunExpress Airlines via our T(h)rust Talent Program.

Say hi to Aslı Mutlu!

She is from Muğla, one of my favorite spots in the Turkish Riviera. She graduated from Eskişehir Technical University's Aircraft Airframe and Engine Maintenance Department. Aslı first joined SunExpress as an intern, completed her five-month internship, and has been working in Line Maintenance for about a year now.

Let's dive into her answers and learn more about another inspiring #SunnyPeople story, while listening to her recommended track, 'Loser' by Tame Impala.

1. How did you learn about the T(h)rust Talent Program, and what motivated you to apply?

I attended an introduction event for the program during my final year at university, and I immediately saw it as a great opportunity. The chance to complete an internship and secure a job offer afterward was very attractive, so I decided to give it a try.

2. How would you evaluate your journey so far, transitioning from a student to an active member of our Line Maintenance team?

The extended internship provided by the T(h)rust Talent Program made my transition much smoother. Of course, my teammates also played a huge role in helping me adapt to both the team and the operational rhythm.

3. What is the most rewarding part of working here for you, and what has been your biggest challenge so far?

The most rewarding feeling is flying as a passenger on an aircraft I personally worked on. It gives me an immense sense of pride and reminds me how crucial our role is. My biggest challenge was getting used to shift work when I first started, but I gradually adapted to the routine.

4. In your opinion, what sets the T(h)rust Talent Program apart from a standard aircraft technician role or application process?

I think the best part is that the journey starts while you are still a student. It gives you a real taste of professional life before graduation. Also, interning at the very company where you could build your future career was a huge motivation for me.

5. Tell us about your Lufthansa Technical Training GmbH (LTT) experience and what you gained from the training environment in Hamburg?

My LTT experience in Hamburg was a fantastic opportunity to learn within a different maintenance setup. I gained valuable technical knowledge, observed different working methods, and grew both professionally and personally. It also gave me much more confidence in working within an international environment.

6. Any last thoughts or recommendations for aircraft technician students or anyone planning a career in a maintenance organization?

I recommend grabbing every opportunity that comes your way, especially development programs like T(h)rust. They help you gain hands-on experience, build confidence, and understand the industry long before you officially start your career.

Thank you, Aslı, for your clear and sincere insights. More importantly, thank you for being such an inspiring role model for future aviators, especially in traditionally male-dominated fields like aircraft maintenance.

Stay tuned to see who you'll meet in our upcoming interviews!
